Whole Foods Prep, Local Food Delivery Business, Opens Cafe in Edgewater

EDGEWATER — A local food preparation and delivery business has expanded and opened a cafe in Edgewater where people can try its menu.

All Meal Prep opened its first physical location at 1100 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in early January, allowing the food delivery business to expand into brick-and-mortar and try itself as an old-school restaurant.

Since 2018, All Meal Prep has been providing healthy meals throughout the Chicago area so customers don’t have to spend time preparing their meals during the week, said founder Joseph Patrick.

After operating from a ghost kitchen, Patrick decided to create a restaurant where people could eat a few meals before starting regular deliveries. It took up residence in the former Nookies space on Bryn Mawr Avenue, which has been largely vacant since closing in 2020 except for a brief period when pHlour Bakery opened an in-store eatery.

“We chose Edgewater to start because it’s a great, upbeat community,” Patrick said. “It’s only a few blocks from the lake, so you get a combination of beach weather and a concrete jungle. I also really love how diverse the area is. There is such a mix of cultures, we even have a lot of people in our staff who speak four or five languages, which is very impressive.”

All Meal Prep’s restaurant menu offers a stripped-down version of its food delivery business and, for now, focuses on breakfast and lunch options. Menu items include omelets, breakfast burritos, wraps and protein bowls.

Visitors can also grab coffee, tea, smoothies, and other beverages, or grab overnight oats, croissants, protein balls, hard-boiled eggs, and more. they can buy ready-made products.

“The atmosphere we create here is very cool, clean and classy,” Patrick said. “It’s a place where people can come and do some work, have a coffee and eat at a reasonable price, things are so expensive now that it’s hard to find.”

Customers will be able to pick up their weekly food orders at the cafe. Visitors can get a 20 percent discount on their bill at the restaurant until February 4, Patrick said.

Patrick founded All Meal Prep in 2018 while trying to lose weight by preparing healthy meals ahead of time and eating them throughout the week. Preparing meals by hand was helpful, but Patrick quickly realized that buying and cooking a week’s worth of food on his own was “time-consuming and tiring.”

“People can definitely cook for themselves, but we’re taking it to the next level by offering more variety and saving people some time,” Patrick said.

People can sign up for weekly meal deliveries online. Most meals are between $7 and $15, Patrick said.

There are plenty of options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert to suit most diets and lifestyles. Each order can be customized to meet an individual’s specific nutritional needs.

The plans are so customizable that people can request specific percentages of protein, carbs and fat to “build” their meal plan, Patrick said. Customers can choose from pre-selected packages or design their own menus entirely.

“Our online platform essentially democratizes the cost of having a private chef,” said Patrick. “If you tell us what you need, we’ll actually weigh all your food for you. “There is no other company that I know of in the Chicagoland area that will do that.”

Patrick plans to expand All Meal Prep’s delivery and cafe menus to include dinner in the future.

The business’ new home in Edgewater may be rebuilt in a few years, but Patrick said he plans to stay in the area for a long time. In the future, Patrick hopes to open more Cooking Places throughout the city.

“We strive to raise the bar and provide high-quality food at an affordable price,” Patrick said. “It’s all about creating a colorful plate with a little bit of everything.”

Whole Foods’ Edgewater location is open daily from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Click here for more information on the job.
