What on earth is going on at Newcastle United? – BBC Sport analyst

Some interesting comments from the BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.

Chris Sutton speaks ahead of Saturday’s game against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The chances of Eddie Howe and his players to get past the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Pointing out to BBC Sport what he sees as the status quo between the two teams, does Chris Sutton have money and ideas?

Chris Sutton speaking to BBC Sport:

“What on earth is going on at Newcastle United?

“I keep reading reports that they are about to sell half of their team.

“I feel sorry for Magpies boss Eddie Howe for not having any doubts about the future of his key players.

“But I don’t see things going well for him at Craven Cottage either.

“Fulham are the type of team that can turn it on at times and will throw everything they have at Newcastle.

“Prediction: Fulham 2 Newcastle 1”

So what do we make of what BBC Sport said?

Well, I think it’s funny that someone who works in football broadcasting, isn’t taking the shortcut of the ‘reports’ they’re reading.

There are ‘reports reckoning Newcastle are on the verge of selling half their squad’, selling ‘key players’…

Then there is of course the reality.

Newcastle United haven’t sold anyone this window, unless you count Javier Manquillo who has just a few months left on his contract to move to Celta Vigo on a free transfer. Newcastle are retaining wages for a player who will not play for the rest of the season, with Manquillo getting a chance to play after recovering from injury.

However, as the Sporting Director of Bayern Munich has now made clear, Newcastle had no intention of selling Kieran Trippier. As Newcastle United reported through other journalists, the English defender does not leave this window. Evidence that Bayern have raised up to $13m for the player who will turn 34 in September, however, is not interested.

As the BBC Sport expert also knows, this was not the case Newcastle United are willing to sell anyone, in any window. An acknowledgment from the likes of Darren Eales and Eddie Howe of the fact that it exists at all clubs, that you have to work within the restrictions of FFP. So until the summer when they can be more flexible, making a big signing this month, may involve selling one or more players for an extended FFP.

If Eddie Howe and NUFC sold anyone, it would be because they think it will allow them to strengthen more.

This was in January 2023 when Shelvey was sold and Wood went out on loan, which allowed Anthony Gordon to come in. Tonali, Barnes, Livramento, Minteh and Hall (credit).

When it comes to real football, we know that Fulham can be a dangerous, albeit inconsistent, team. Their last two Premier League home games saw them win against Arsenal but lose 2-0 against Burnley.

Chris Sutton did not mention that Eddie Howe had two full weeks to prepare, Marco Silva and his players threw everything at Liverpool last night and drew 1-1, however, this meant a 3-2 defeat. scousers and not Fulham reach the final of the League Cup.

The BBC Sport pundit thinks Fulham will ‘throw everything’ in the FA Cup tie but it will be interesting to see what they have left to throw at Newcastle United last night. Indeed, how many changes can Silva make, knowing they have a big Premier League game on Tuesday, Everton are bottom of fourth and if they win at Craven Cottage they will be just two points behind Fulham.

As for Newcastle United, despite selling half the team… Eddie Howe still has eleven players who came close to beating Man City in their last game and the eleven proved fit and trained on Wednesday in pictures from the training ground released by NUFC.

This is the same team that beat Sunderland 3-0 away from home in the final, except for Joelinton who underwent surgery, Lewis Miley replaced him just after half-time in Sunderland’s win.

We have Tino Livramento back from illness and hopefully one or two will be back this weekend or sooner, maybe a little light at the end of the road.

A win on Saturday would give everyone a boost AND no doubt, Eddie Howe and Newcastle United will be throwing everything at Fulham.
