Parneet beats Jyothi to the Asian Championship gold

The all-India women’s doubles final goes down to the wire and it is Parneet Kaur who takes the top honors on the light sand. The two were exhausted with 145 points each and a shootout ensued. It was here that Parneet edged past his much-improved brother to win the match 9-8, and take the gold medal again.

As it stands, India won three gold medals at the Asian Archery Championships today:

  • Women’s Compound Individual: Parneet Kaur

  • Mixed Compound: Aditi Swami and Priyansh

  • Women’s Compound Team: Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Gopichand Swami and Parneet Kaur

International competition at 17: Who is Aditi Swami?

Aditi Swami’s story sounds like the plot of a sports-inspired movie, albeit a fictional one: She was a popular kid who picked up an archery bow, in an arena full of team sports, because her father said she had to play and study. And the result? She also became India’s first international champion at the age of 17….and also became the Under-18 women’s world champion by breaking the world record.

Our reporter Zenia D’Cunha met the youngster, who has another difficult task ahead of him – to prepare for his 12th exam. More on this here: ‘Age doesn’t matter’: 17-year-old winner Aditi Swami on her first season

GOLD #2 of the day for Indian archers

Another gold comes to India as Aditi Swami and Priyansh beat their Thai opponents 156-151 to win gold in the Compound Mixed final of the Asian Archery Championship. And what about the Indian team: Aditi Swami, the world champion, and Priyansh, the U21 world champion.

Fun fact: This is Aditi’s second gold medal at the Asian Games…within an hour! She won gold with the women’s team and now has another yellow metal to her name.

The Women’s compound women’s and men’s bronze medal finals will begin soon, we will bring you updates as they happen.

GOLD: Indian women’s team and Asian champions
