Cities: Skylines 2 – How to increase entertainment

The goal of Cities: Skylines 2 is to build the most attractive city possible. These include good healthcare, a solid police force and numerous entertainment options such as parks and sports fields. Some commercial buildings also provide entertainment, but in general it is best for players to take care of this civic need themselves.

The Parks and Recreation menu will unlock once players reach milestone four, Grand Village. This includes a few small parks, but players have to buy everything else with development points. Players should do this sooner rather than later as small parks can only provide so much entertainment value Cities: Skylines 2.

Park maintenance

The first upgrade in the Parks and Recreation tree is Park Maintenance. This unlocks a special building that is responsible for keeping every park and public venue in the city in good condition. When players let parks rot, their entertainment value decreases. This means that they do not provide the same benefit to citizen well-being, which is the purpose of every park and recreation building in the game.

A single park maintenance building does not cost much and can accommodate many parks, but trucks are sent along the road network to do this. This means they rely on good traffic throughout the city to get their work done on time. However, as city vehicles, they can drive on pedestrian streets and other areas inaccessible to normal vehicles.

Entertainment and population density

Cities Skylines 2 Entertainment Leisure View

As players replace low-density residential areas with medium- and high-density areas, they may find that the parks they place no longer cover as much of the neighborhood as they once did. Essentially, every family in a building increases the building’s entertainment needs, and what works for a sprawling suburb won’t cut it for a skyscraper. Players must build more and better parks and recreation buildings if they want to increase the entertainment and well-being of a densely populated neighborhood.

The buildings that players receive for free are small parks. These are sufficient for low-density areas, but simply stop working when players switch to high-density areas.

Note that while Campfire Site has better values, it is also much larger than the other small parks. The final statistic, attractiveness, indicates how likely tourists are to show up and use the facility.

The next two park types are large parks and sports parks. Players can unlock them after purchasing the park maintenance building for two development points each.

The sports parks each have similar stats, but they have different shapes that players can use to fit them into neighborhood grids.

After unlocking the previous two park types, players can purchase large sports parks for four development points.

The final upgrade in the Parks and Recreation tree is Tourist Attractions. It costs eight development points to purchase, and although the buildings provide a good recovery boost, the real purpose of building them is to increase the city’s attractiveness.

The last tab in the Parks and Recreation menu is for Attractions. Landmarks don’t cost development points to unlock, but players are unlikely to purchase them early due to their insanely high cost and upkeep values. Still, they’re a good way to personalize a city late in the game when players decide to invest their money.
