Austin, Texas, February 8, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Agilon Health, Inc. (NYSE: AGL), a trusted partner helping physicians transform health care in our communities, today announced Benjamin Kornitzer M.D. will assume the strategic role of Special Advisor to the company and will transition from the position of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) effective March 1, 2024. agilon health has launched a comprehensive search process to identify a new CMO. Karthik Rao, MD, senior medical director and vice president of network performance, will serve as interim chief marketing officer until a successor is named. Dr. Rao and agilon’s Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) Kevin Spencer, MD, will jointly lead the company’s clinical strategy.

Dr. Rao has ten years of experience as a practicing internist and in other roles in value-based care. Prior to joining agilon, he worked at McKinsey & Company, where he led broad strategy and operations efforts across the healthcare value chain, with a particular focus on provider groups and government organizations. Dr. Rao received his bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and holds his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in internal medicine and primary care at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Spencer has more than 25 years of experience as a former chief executive officer (CEO) of an independent primary care practice, a practicing family medicine physician in value-based care, and a founding partner of agilon. Prior to joining agilon, Dr. Spencer served as CEO and Chairman of Premier Family Physicians and Founder and President of the Southwest Provider Accountable Care Organization (ACO). Dr. Spencer received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and completed his residency at North Carolina Medical Center.
